Better understanding of, and connection to diverse communities
What we know from our data is that our communities are made up of different ages, genders, religions, ethnicities, and backgrounds, which means it’s even more important that we understand our customers and colleagues so that the support and services we provide is inclusive of everyone.
By better understanding who our communities are, what they experience and where tensions or barriers exist, we can build stronger connections, create a greater sense of belonging, and act.
Celebrating diversity throughout the year
We’ve developed a calendar of key dates, shaped by what we know about our customers and colleagues, to help us celebrate, recognise and raise awareness of important cultural, religious and awareness days.
Supported by our EDI Champions, who play a key role in bringing this to life, we’ve marked several moments over the past year to raise understanding, celebrate difference and create opportunities for colleagues and customers to connect through shared learning and lived experience.
Our EDI champions
Alongside helping us to recognise these dates, our EDI Champions help promote, celebrate and raise awareness of EDI topics, encourage engagement in initiatives, share best practice, and foster inclusive relationships across our organisation and communities.
Vimal Gaglani, Director of Corporate Finance and Co-Chair of the EDI Champions said:

"The UK is built on diversity, and our colleagues and customers reflect the many backgrounds, experiences and perspectives that make our communities unique. I am proud that Abri is taking a leading role in recognising this, and through the vital work of our EDI Champions, we are strengthening relationships, fostering inclusion, and creating a greater sense of belonging across our organisation and communities."

"Community cohesion matters because it creates a sense of belonging, trust, and shared purpose. When people from different backgrounds feel connected and valued, we build stronger, safer communities. I’ve seen how feeling included, respected, and connected can shape someone’s confidence, wellbeing, and sense of belonging."
Savi Bhamra, Head of Diversity and Inclusion
Strengthening community cohesion
With the rising public and political focus on topics such as housing and immigration, we’ve strengthened our commitment to building community cohesion.
One of the ways we’re helping to build stronger communities is through the work of our Community Cohesion Working Group. It’s been established to review, develop, and implement strategies that will foster a common vision, sense of belonging and strengthen community resilience.
